Indications have emerged weekend that Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel may be heading to a collision course with Akwa Ibom State Council of Chiefs in a no distance time, THE RADAR newspaper can report authoritatively.

This paper gathered, last Thursday, during the Council meeting of the Paramount Rulers at the Royal Chambers, that the newly sworn in Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Victor Antai, reportedly told the royal fathers that Udom Emmanuel was not happy over the seemingly cold reception given to him at Itu LGA by Royal Fathers in the area when he arrived venue of the ground breaking ceremony of the Automobile Assembly Plant.
Udom Emmanuel Vs A'Ibom monarchsAntai, we learnt, reportedly frowned at the said action, saying that the governor had expected the Paramount Ruler of Itu, Edidem Edet Akpan Inyang, Clan Heads, village Heads and other traditional rulers at the event to stand up and welcome him, and to remain standing until he (governor) takes his seat before they sitted, noting that their refusal to do so, had belittled the office of the state governor, since, they were already standing up for his predecessor, Godswill Akpabio.

The Chieftaincy Commissioner, we gathered, reportedly warned that henceforth, all royal fathers in the state including paramount rulers, clan heads and village heads must respect the governor’s office at event by always standing up for him and remain standing until he sits before they can take their seats.

This paper learnt that temper rise in the meeting as some fearless paramount ruler shouted down the Commissioner, cautioning him on the consequences of his outburst. We further learnt, the paramount rulers reportedly told Victor Antai to warn the governor that he was treading on a dangerous pathway, if he expects them to stand while greeting him.

The aggrieved monarchs, who, we gathered, after cautioning the Commissioner, advised him to always seek advice from his predecessors before speaking to them, else he might incur their wrath and that of the gods of the land.

They further reportedly told Antai, this paper learnt, that at no time during Akpabio’s government did they (paramount rulers) stand up to receive or greet him whether at event or privately, adding that, though, Akpabio had desired such unwarranted treatment but, they resisted him and went on to pass a Resolution in one of their Chambers’ meetings that no paramount ruler in Akwa Ibom state should stand up while greeting or receiving any governor, president and etc during event in the state.

The traditional rulers warned that Udom Emmanuel may have been wrongly advised by his predecessor, Godswill Akpabio, noting that in other parts of Nigeria, traditional fathers; who are their contemporaries in the likes Obas, Emias, Obis and the likes are highly respected and revered by their people including governors and president.

Efforts to get the reaction of the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Victor Antai, proved abortive as he was not picking our calls or return same before press time.
